From Diagnosis to PreventionA hybrid vision on health
I bridge nuclear radiology, metabolic science, and performance to build resilient, long-lasting health.
Why I shifted my focus
As a nuclear radiologist, I see the endpoint of disease on PET-CT every day. Over time, I kept noticing an early warning sign across ultrasound, CT and MRI: fatty liver disease, a strong marker of metabolic dysfunction.
Deep dives into insulin resistance, visceral fat, and metabolic health changed my perspective. Modern medicine often intervenes too late.
I founded Metaboliq.nl to help people in The Netherlands understand and improve metabolism, before disease develops. Health isn’t merely the absence of disease; it’s the presence of resilience.
More recently, I’ve shifted my focus to content creation. The Metaboliq Podcast is at the heart of that work. Each episode brings together clinicians, researchers, and practitioners to unpack metabolic health in plain language: what’s happening in your body, what the science says, and what you can do about it. Listen at Metaboliq.fm.
Integrate, don’t choose
Medicine focuses on organs and structure. We also need process and function. In metabolism, that means metabolic flexibility: efficiently using fat and glucose without damage.
Train the full system
Not endurance or strength. Both. We build VO₂max, muscle mass and strength together to create a powerful, adaptable system.
It's my mission to eradicate metabolic dysregulation so that millions of people can live better, longer lives, without compromise.
In practice
A glimpse of who I am as a person, physician, researcher and athlete.

Grounded, curious, and driven to help people live better, longer.

GCR Statistics: assessing research quality
In 2019 I founded GCR Statistics because too much clinical research fails not from lack of effort, but from weak study design and misunderstood statistics. I had seen colleagues draw overstated conclusions from insufficient evidence, often unaware of bias in their design or the assumptions behind their tests.
GCR Statistics provides free education and practical tools so clinicians can design rigorous studies, perform correct analyses, and interpret results honestly. The platform is built on my postgraduate training in clinical epidemiology and years of working alongside researchers at every level, from PhD students to senior professors.
Through the GCR Academy, I developed a free Foundations course: nine structured lessons covering inference, hypothesis testing, regression, and study design from a clinician's perspective. Alongside it, I built interactive research tools: a study design aid, a test wizard for choosing the right statistical test, and diagnostic and risk 2×2 table calculators.
This work deepened my ability to assess research methodology and quality, spotting flawed designs, challenging p-value-driven reasoning, and asking whether conclusions truly follow from the evidence. Those skills inform how I read the literature and evaluate claims in metabolic health and medicine today.
Design before you analyse
Guides and tools that help researchers plan rigorous studies, including sample size calculations, so conclusions stand up to scrutiny.
Understand, don't memorise
Statistics explained the way clinicians need them: grounded in study design and causal thinking, not formula sheets.
Freely accessible
The Foundations course and research tools remain open to clinicians who want to improve how they design, analyse, and interpret clinical research.
